Minho appears in the hallway after a while. Jonghyun has his eyes closed and is trying to exercise the art of even breathing, and jumps when Minho puts a hand on his shoulder. “Hyung,” he says. “Calm down.” His voice is so low that only Jonghyun would be able to hear it, and Jonghyun takes an unsteady breath before saying, “I’m trying.”
Minho hands Jonghyun the rolled up black satin bowtie that Jonghyun has yet to put on. Jonghyun sighs and finds the nearest mirror, flipping his collar up and trying not to let his hands shake too much. Somewhere along the way, the rest of SHINee seems to file in quietly, wordlessly. The silence is not somber, but a still peace that precedes a storm.
They are his best men. Jonghyun could not and refused to pick only one of them. They all watch Jonghyun’s fingers fumble with the satin, and the more he can’t get it to tie properly, the more his hands shake. Key’s hands gently yank it out of Jonghyun’s grasp after a moment, and Jonghyun stands there and watches Key flip the ends of the tie deftly around each other. He knows they all have the same question on their minds—Hyung, why are you so nervous?—but he also knows they already know the answer. “They have no choice but to accept it, hyung,” Key finally says, breaking the eerie silence. “And, to be honest, I think they’re rather happy for you. The fans, I mean. I’ve seen the message boards.” Key shrugs. “The wedding photos that were released—I think there were two? Almost everyone said they were happy for you. So smile, because when everyone’s looking at Ji Eun, she’ll be looking at you.”
